Across the harbour from Courtenay is Comox, B.C., a seaside village known for its unassuming charm and small-town feel. Situated in the lush Comox Valley, this city is bordered by the Strait of Georgia to the east and by the mighty Beaufort Mountains to the west. Comox serves as an entry point to the Mount Washington Alpine Resort, a popular ski and snowboard destination, and to Strathcona Provincial Park, which boasts the largest glacier on Vancouver Island. Comox is well-known for its air force base, CFB Comox, and for the Comox Air Force Museum, a popular attraction that commemorates the past and present of the Canadian Forces. Near the end of Comox Avenue stands the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park, a historic home that illustrates the rich history of the Comox Valley. Comox's signature event, Nautical Days, takes place every year at the beginning of August.
